Every summer, while the UAE bakes at 45°C, a corner of southern Oman does something magical: it rains. From late June to early September, the Khareef monsoon wraps the Dhofar mountains around Salalah in mist, turns the hillsides green, and sets dozens of seasonal waterfalls flowing. Daytime temperatures hover around a cool 25°C.
When exactly should you go?
Mid-July to late August is the peak of the green season — this is when Wadi Darbat's waterfalls are strongest and the fog rolls thickest over Jebel Samhan. Our coach departures run every Thursday to Monday through the whole season, but July and August weekends sell out first.
Getting there: bus vs flight
Flights from Dubai to Salalah are quick but expensive in Khareef season. The overnight luxury coach is the budget-friendly favourite for UAE residents: leave Thursday 4:00 PM, sleep on the road, wake up in the green mountains. Our escorted package includes the coach, a beach resort stay, buffet meals and all sightseeing from AED 1,299.
What to pack
A light rain jacket or umbrella, comfortable walking shoes with grip (paths get muddy), a warm layer for misty evenings, swimwear for the beach, and your documents: original passport (6+ months validity) and Emirates ID (3+ months). Keep AED 35 per person in cash for the Oman border fee.
Border crossing tips
UAE residents cross at the Mezyad (Al Ain) border. Dependent-visa holders need an Oman eVisa arranged in advance; visit-visa holders and visa-change cases are not allowed to cross. On our escorted tours the tour manager handles the formalities queue — you just hand over your documents.

Wadi Darbat's waterfalls and lake, the blowholes at Mughsail Beach, the 1,800m viewpoints of Jebel Samhan, the spring at Ain Razat, the gravity-defying Anti-Gravity Point, the Sinkhole at Tawi Atair, Prophet Ayub's tomb in the hills, and frankincense shopping at Haffa Souk.
